Why I Want to Teach

I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. There was no other profession that interested me as much as teaching did. This desire to teach began with past experiences that I had with educators who were able to bring out the best in me. These teachers were able to inspire me to pass their passion along. They encouraged me to do my very best, and I believe that I can also encourage other students to do their best.

Teachers have the opportunity to impact the lives of their students in ways that parents or peers may not get the chance to. Teachers open up the doors of logical and creative thinking. They open the minds of students to form their own opinions as well as accept the opinions of others. Good teachers instill in their students eagerness to learn and use  a wide range of techniques to keep them interested. Good teachers teach their students to be patient, compassionate, and understanding among a vast array of other good qualities. These are all goals that I would like to accomplish one day as an educator. I want to be able to say that I did my very best as a teacher and students have become great future citizens because of it.

I know that the job will not be easy and the work load will not be light. But the reward will be the greatest achievement. A teacher’s influence may help produce the next President or the doctor who may find a cure for cancer. Whatever the outcome is, a teacher’s lessons can echo throughout a child’s entire life. I have this passion to motivate children to their highest potential. I know that my success as a teacher will be in the success of my students. The legacies of a teacher can be his or her greatest accomplishments. For this reason, teaching is not only a profession, but more importantly, a passion. I have this dedication to educate and inspire children whether in the classroom or outside of it. Teaching will be the reward in itself.
